It is both a privilege and a joy to be a part of a young child’s first learning experiences and we thank you for that opportunity.
The Two’s Program at MCNS is designed to help little ones foster social skills, communication skills, fine motor skills, and gross motor skills in an age-appropriate, playful, and safe environment. Many materials and sensory experiences are provided and children are offered the opportunity to choose manipulatives that are appealing to them. When youngsters feel comfortable with the activity, the teachers can help them to expand upon basic skills needed both inside and out of the classroom. These skills include asking for help, talking about the object with which they are playing, taking turns, and learning how to move their bodies among their environment.
The Three year old class at MCNS is a fun environment where all aspects of the learning process are introduced. Children develop attitudes about their own learning early on so in the 3’s, it is important to foster their curiosity, their persistence and attentiveness. To help spark each child’s individual curiosity, the teachers provide opportunities for the children to engage in hands-on experiments, art projects, music, math and reading readiness. Lastly, teachers help guide the children through their social development by encouraging sharing, facilitating cooperative play and fostering friendships.
In PreK at MCNS children are seen as individual learners who can participate in a variety of hands-on activities. Play materials are designed for specific purposes. We work in the areas of independence, responsibility, preparation, confidence and self-esteem, small motor skills, large motor skills, listening, following directions, academics, and FUN! The goal is for all children to enjoy all of the above in a loving, nurturing and playful environment.
Transitional kindergarten at MCNS is a program that gives our youngest kinders time to grow. Children who come to this program are given the gift of another year. They are usually children who have late birthdays falling in the summer months to late December. In TK children are given the opportunity to practice skills through a structured class with academics learned in fun and meaningful ways! The important thing in TK is that the children show progress, not that they master every skill. The curriculum is based on kindergarten standards, but it is modified to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of younger children. Because they have this extra year, children are given a chance to work out problems like impulsivity, sharing class materials with other students, paying attention and controlling their emotions so that when they enter kindergarten they are confident and ready learners who want to achieve success.
My twins have a late birthday so we have had the privilege of being able to send them here for three years. MCNS has made the learning environment fun and rewarding for them. They love going to school and look forward to it everyday. We are going to miss it next year when they are off to kindergarten!Deanna Leone
Our son is participating in transitional kindergarten this year. With a late fall birthday, this is proving to be the perfect experience to prepare him for the demands of kindergarten. He has made more progress in the last 5 months than we saw all of last year. We are so happy with the program at MCNS, that we have chosen to enroll our 3 yr old next year.Kelly Allgeier Mead
My family has been involved in MCNS for 4 years. We have experienced the 2’s program, the 3’s and the 4’s and every teacher, every experience, has been amazing. My children have thrived there and the environment is not only one of learning but one of nurturing. The teacher’s love for children and for what they do is evident and it is the reason we will continue to support this wonderful school.Jenna Fava Roote
